Michael Denman

October 7, 1986 – July 19, 2005

Michael DenmanThe Greater Indianapolis Chapter of ARMA International wishes to honor Michael Denman, the son of chapter member Pat Schmidt.

Michael Nathan Denman, age 18, of Plainfield, Indiana passed away on July 19, 2005, at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis, Indiana. Michael was a loving and special young man who happened to have Down Syndrome. He was a student at Plainfield High School; a member of Hendricks County Special Olympics; and was a very enthusiastic camper at Camp Hi-Lite, CYO Camp and Handicapable Camp.

For family and friends, whom had the opportunity to know Michael, learned that every day is truly a blessing and a new adventure. What Michael gave us is so valuable. He gave us opportunities to discover the depth of our character, not his; the depth of our love, our commitment; our patience; our abilities; the opportunity to explore our spirit more deeply than we imagined possible. He drove us further than we would ever go on our own, working harder, seeking answers to our many questions, creating questions with no answers.

He was the child who was mentally impaired. He didn’t learn easily, if you judged him by the world’s measuring stick. What he did know was infinite joy in the simple things. He was not burdened as we are with strife and conflicts of a more complicated life. His gift to us was to grant us the freedom to enjoy things as a child, to teach us how much our arms around him meant, to give us love. He gave us the gift of simplicity! He was the mentally impaired child who is now our guardian angel

A memorial service was held at Bradford Woods, a year round location for numerous camp programs for children in Indiana.
