Bill Ptacek

June 23, 1948 – December 19, 2008

William Porter Ptacek, Deputy Secretary of State for Records Management, State of Nebraska, passed away after a battle with cancer. Bill is survived by his wife, Susan, and two daughters.

Friends and colleagues of Bill Ptacek, long-time member of the Nebraska Chapter of ARMA International and highly regarded records management professional, have established this memorial to recognize his contributions. Because of his years of service as Treasurer and later President of the Nebraska ARMA Chapter and Treasurer of the Midwest/Rocky Mountain Region of ARMA International, he earned the nickname $Bill. He also served on the ARMA International U.S. Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee.

Professionally he was known as an author and national speaker on the uses and benefits of micrographic technology and later the topic of electronic records standards. He served. the State of Nebraska in the Records Management Division for 38 years, serving as Director since 1975. Other professional activities include NAGARA and AIIM which recognized his service with its Distinguished Service Award.
